Oklahoma's Offensive Line Must be 'More Physical' to Improve in Week 2

Published: 04 September 2024
(by Ryan Chapman) NORMAN — Friday night didn’t quite go to plan for Oklahoma’s offensive line. Bill Bedenbaugh had the tall task of replacing all five starters from the group that started a majority of OU’s games up front a year ago, and he was already coaching without his full complement of linemen. Jake Taylor, who was slated to start at right...read more from Oklahoma Sooners on SI

U40: What can be fixed and who can step up on offense for Houston?

Published: 04 September 2024

Is the Scoop staff at war with each other over the offensive line situation? Maybe. But mainly we're all just trying to figure out who the hell is going to be the starting center Saturday against Houston. Injuries have ravaged the interior of the OU offensive line and even Brent Venables seemed a bit put off by answering questions about it this week at his weekly press conference. (George did it). And we really dig deep into who could be the youngsters to step up at the receiver position. But then the good happens. We start talking about the defense and the depth and talent that is being developed by Brent Venables in Norman. The Sooners are legitimately two-deep at a lot of positions. And we liked a lot of what we saw from the defensive line last weekend. But again, it's only one game and it was against a pretty bad Temple team. Josh is here to hit on some recruiting as the Tennessee weekend is looking like one to watch for all you recruitniks. The latest with Cortez Mills and Andrew Babalola as well. We also take a look around at college football and the teams that have been duds so far in the early season. Florida State and Florida? We're looking at you...from the SoonerScoop

What went wrong on third down for OU football vs. Temple? 'A lot,' Brent Venables says

Published: 04 September 2024
(by Ryan Aber) NORMAN — Plenty went right for OU in its season-opening 51-3 win over Temple. One big thing that didn’t was the offense’s ability to convert on third downs. The Sooners went just 1 of 12 on third downs, missing their first 11 tries. OU’s mark ranks No. 132 — last — in the country heading into the season’s second week...read more from The Oklahoman

How Kani Walker established himself as OU's 'most consistent cornerback'

Published: 04 September 2024
(by Jesse Crittenden) NORMAN — On the football field, Kani Walker has had a knack for being in the right place at the right time. It's happened a couple times last season, the first one coming when he forced a fumble against Arkansas State. The most notable came when Williams dove to catch an interception against Arizona after a tipped pass by...read more from the OUInsider

Jackson Arnold explains how Oklahoma joining the SEC factored into his recruitment

Published: 04 September 2024

Now he enters his first year as starting quarterback...read more from On3.com

How OU football's Kendel Dolby showed maturation in Sooners' Week 1 win over Temple

Published: 04 September 2024
(by Colton Sulley) NORMAN — Kendel Dolby leapt high in the air and poked the ball away from a Temple receiver for what he thought was a pass breakup. When he didn’t catch it, a disappointed Dolby covered his face, dropped to his knees and pounded the field grass. He found out later his tip-drill play ended up in the hands of...read more from The Oklahoman

OU notepad: Taylor Tatum will 'earn more of an opportunity'

Published: 03 September 2024
(by Jesse Crittenden) NORMAN — Taylor Tatum has had quite the impact since arriving at Oklahoma this summer. He built on that buzz in Friday's 51-3 win over Temple, especially after scoring his first collegiate touchdown late in the fourth quarter. There's only been one real negative so far, OU coach Brent Venables said. "(OU running backs coach...read more from the OUInsider
